About Tim Appelt

For the past eight years, I have largely focused on writing about wine and continuing my wine education. I am part of the media group that tastes and reviews all of the LCBO/Vintages wines that are released in Ontario, I taste widely at industry and agency events, and explore our local winegrowing scene. I have also taught introductory wine courses at George Brown College in Toronto, and have been a judge for Tony Aspler’s Ontario Wine Awards.

I enjoy wine-oriented travel, and in the past several years I have participated in press trips to Campania and Vinho Verde, and private sommelier tours of Burgundy and Spain.

Prior to my commitment to the wine industry, I had a career in the investment business. After earning a Ph.D. in Philosophy from MIT, and an MBA in Finance, I spent 25 years as a consultant and quantitative investment manager, culminating with 15 years at my own firm Structured Capital Inc. In 2013 I published a book: How do you get THERE from HERE? Learning and playing the long-term investment game.
