Tasting: Mountadam High Eden Estate Chardonnay 2015

"... we opened this terrific bottle with dinner, and what a treat ..."

Australia — South Australia • $26.95 • WD Score 90/100

We opened this terrific bottle with dinner, and what a treat! Still slightly reductive with a subtle smoky edge, its fine acidity balances some ripeness, keeping the overall effect constrained and focused. As of the date of writing, there is still lots of the 2015 in the Vintages system, so splurge a little for this bottle and I think you will be rewarded. It will also flourish in the cellar for at least another three to five years. My formal tasting note is below. Santé!

Pale straw-yellow in colour. Gentle smoky and resin notes introduce attractive lemon, apple and melon aromas. The wine is dry, with firm acidity, and a surprisingly rounded texture that balances the palate. The fruit is pleasantly forward, perhaps slightly riper-seeming on the palate, the oak elements are restrained, and the finish is juicy but rapidly dries. Very good. • Tasted 2017-09-16 • LCBO id#333211 • Find it at your nearest LCBOCORK AND CROWN (Agent)
