Germany — Mosel • $39.95 • 91/100

The Abtsberg vineyard of the Maximin Grünhäuser estate lies on a steep, south facing slope on the left bank of the Ruwer River, and it’s Devonian blue slate subsoils are typical of the Mosel region. The wine is light yellow, with a complex nose suggesting smoky resin with a hint of kerosene, then lovely apple blossoms and ripe red apple, lime, melon and white peach. The wine is medium sweet, and the palate is honeyed and round, but the vivid acidity enhances the fruit and keeps it full of life, and brings a clean, drying element to the finish. A terrific example of spätlese. • Tasted 2017-02-04 • LCBO id#481374 • Find it at your nearest LCBOAPPELLATION WINES (Agent)
